Lucille Clifton’s imagines  the story of Mary and the angel, suggesting how confusing and overwhelming the whole scene might have been.  And perhaps how Mary felt both powerless and powerful at the same time. Powerful to be chosen, powerless to do anything but join in whatever way she was able.
